Quality of life

Human beings have desire to make their life happy and prosperous. The main objective of population education is to upgrade the quality of living standard of an individual, family, society, country and the world. There are different types of indicators to achieve the quality of living standard of people. Increasing trend of life expectancy, sound economic condition, fulfillment of basic requirements and clean, green and healthy environment are some of the important indicators of the quality of living standard of the people. The concept of quality of life is very broad. Every person deserves the chance to lead a life of satisfaction and purpose to achieve a life more than just existing. The quality life would depend on conceptualizing the human need structure in a new perspective and on making adequate provision for it. The standard of living, of course is very important to one’s quality of life.  Under the same set of conditions, the quality life may be perceived differently from person to person, depending on his/her degree of satisfaction. Quality of life encompasses the wide range of opportunities, facilities and services needed for happiness and satisfaction of human beings. The concept of quality of life is very broad. Different people have different concepts of quality of life. Some people define the quality of life on the basis of social, economic, cultural, and religious aspects. Some people define it on the basis of individual priority and philosophy of life. The quality of life can be defined on the basis of desire and standard of satisfaction of the people. It is impossible to think the quality of life without providing the basic requirements. The quality of life is not related with the physical pleasure, peace, and facilities. The quality of life is the achievement of physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of the people. Thus, the quality of life is the degree of satisfaction related with various aspects of human needs. The quality of life depends upon satisfaction. But the satisfaction does not occur in hungry stomach, thirsty and naked body. Human beings are not merely a biological being, but also a social being as well. Freedom of thought, affectionate environment and a harmonious social condition are necessities for the quality of life. The quality of life differs for different people and it may differ according to the level of the fulfillment of the basic requirements. Quality of life is the degree of satisfactions one has in relation to physical, mental and psychological needs. Satisfaction is the yardstick to measure quality of life. So, quality of life refers to the lifestyle with happiness and satisfaction that fulfills physical, socio-cultural, emotional and spiritual needs of the people.
